Old Itzalon

Itzalon was the first cinema in Zumarraga. In Europe, in 1895, the cinema was born. And of course, everyone wanted to see this novelty, so in the late 1940s the Itzalon cinema was created in Piedad Street. It was an initiative of the parish of Santa María de la Asunción.

It is a beautiful building, something singular for its time; it resembled cinemas that existed in European capitals such as Berlin. The Itzalon cinema was open until 1993. From then until 2002 Zumárraga was without a cinema, until Zelai Aristi, which is in the block behind it, arrived. People live in this old cinema today.
