Sequoia

The sequoia tree next to the town hall is estimated to be about 150 years old. When it was planted it was located in the gardens of the house of the brothers José Antonio and Ignacio María Alberdi. These brothers made their fortune in America and on their return, they followed the custom of planting a palm tree or a sequoia in their place of return, as Antonio Prada, the technician of the Municipal Archives of the City Council of Zumarraga, points out. Since then, the new town council bought and built land, leaving the giant sequoia in its shelter.
