5 September – Arod Quatuor
Founded in 2013, Arod Quatuor has established itself as one of the leading string quartets on the international chamber music scene. The ensemble consists of violinists Jordan Victoria and Alexandre Vu, violist Tanguy Parisot and cellist Jérémy Garbarg. An award-winning quartet that has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, Arod Quatuor will bring energy, precision and expressiveness to the unique setting of the Hermitage of La Antigua.

12 September – Vox Arcana: Oñatiko Ganbara Abesbatza
Founded in 1994, Oñatiko Ganbara Abesbatza will present Vox Arcana under the direction of Aitor Biain Bidarte. The mixed choir, made up of around forty singers, will invite the audience to immerse themselves in an evocative soundscape. The expressive power of the voices and the acoustics of the Hermitage of La Antigua will come together in a performance that highlights the nuances of choral music and creates an immersive and mysterious atmosphere.

19 September – Carles Blanch and Pedro Estevan: vihuela and percussion
Vihuela player Carles Blanch and renowned percussionist Pedro Estevan will introduce the audience to the sounds of early music. Blanch specialises in historical plucked-string instruments, while Estevan has enjoyed an extensive career performing medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music and collaborating with prestigious international ensembles. The delicacy of the vihuela and the rhythmic richness of the percussion will create a unique musical dialogue in the Hermitage of La Antigua.

26 September – KamBrass Quintet
Founded in Barcelona in 2017, KamBrass Quintet was created with the aim of expanding the boundaries of chamber music for brass instruments. The ensemble consists of trumpeters Iñigo Ocón and Joan Pàmies, horn player María Servera, trombonist Xavier Gil and tuba player Oriol Reverter. Having received awards at several international competitions, the quintet will offer a dynamic and expressive performance combining repertoire, arrangements and contemporary creation.

3 October – Baserri minez…
At the Igartubeiti Farmhouse Museum, at 6:00 p.m.

Bertsolari Andoni Egaña, poet Andoni Salamero and musicians Mixel Ducau and Caroline Phillips will join forces in a multidisciplinary performance exploring the world of the traditional Basque farmhouse. Through improvised verse, poetry and music, they will reflect on its past, present and future, as well as the bonds, memories and emotions associated with this way of life. The cider press at Igartubeiti will provide an exceptional setting closely connected to the subject of the performance.

The concerts on 5, 12, 19 and 26 September will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Hermitage of La Antigua.

On concert days, a bus service will depart from Elizkale at 7:00 p.m.

At the end of every summer, Zumarraga fills with music thanks to Antioko Musikaldia, a festival that combines heritage, landscape and culture in a unique setting: the chapel of La Antigua, a jewel of Basque Romanesque architecture and symbol of the municipality.

Music in a place steeped in history
The Musikaldia de La Antigua was created with the aim of offering high-quality music in the municipality’s most emblematic venues. It takes place in September, every Saturday of the month. For a month, the festival turns Zumarraga into a meeting place for artists and audiences, fostering a welcoming, intimate cultural atmosphere.

The main stage for the festival is the chapel of La Antigua, one of the most representative Romanesque churches in the Basque Country. The wooden construction, exceptional acoustics and location in a privileged natural setting make each performance a unique experience.

A programme for all audiences
Antioko Musikaldia is committed to offering a diverse, high-quality musical programme. Each edition brings together local, national and international performers, with styles ranging from classical music to jazz, Basque folk, choral music and new contemporary offerings.

All concerts are free or open to the public, allowing all types of audiences to enjoy music in a welcoming atmosphere.

The festival offers more than just concerts: it is also an invitation to rediscover Zumarraga as a cultural and natural destination. Enjoying a recital in La Antigua at sunset, strolling through the rural surroundings of the chapel or savouring the local cuisine in the town centre makes the visit a complete experience.
